Primal Movement: Finding Alignment + Balancing Your Anterior & Posterior Chains

In primal movement, we are working to move with the natural alignment of our spine. Working with a more natural, springy alignment, we cultivate balanced tone- all sides of the body engaging holistically for functional movement. 

  

In our daily lives and in our practices, oftentimes we cultivate movement patterns that are out of harmony. 

The anterior chains of the body tend to work harder than the posterior chains of the body, and this imbalance can lead to injury and ailment. 

 

By teaching our body to engage in an even and balanced way, we invite whole body integration and optimize our body to move in an intelligent and healthy way. 

Through alignment of the spine, learning to engage the posterior chain in balance with the anterior chain, and cultivating even tension and tone- we begin to move through space in a more integrated and holistic way.

Fascia + Movement - It Matters!

Lately, fascia is a hot topic when it comes to biomechanics and anatomy of the body, and with good reason! This interconnected and holistic system of connective tissue is informing, communicating, and holding the tension and integrity of our physical body structure.

Here are my top three reasons why fascia is so dope:

>> Fascia has changed the way we understand biomechanics and functional mobility.

Where once we understood the body as a compressive, stacked structure, separated into isolated parts, we now understand the body as a holistic, integrated, and interconnected tensegrity system.

How to Improve Posture Naturally with Primal Movement

Our current lifestyle doesn’t facilitate a healthy posture. It’s not something that’s really taught anymore. We know we should have better posture but don’t know how. We sit most of our day. We sit in chairs that don’t take the human form into consideration.

 

We’re told to strengthen our core but are given exercises that only shorten the stomach further, without any focus or awareness that the core is not just the stomach but instead something that’s 3 dimensional. It wraps all the way around and travels up through the center of the body. The placement of the ribs, hips, and even the head are all essential to unlocking this mystery of how to improve posture.
