Holistic Nutrition is the concept of approaching both our bodies and our nourishment as a fully integrated and holistic system - understanding that everything we consume becomes us, thus affecting how our body operates as a whole.
When we understand our bodies in this holistic way, we can see how the quality of lifestyle, our nutrition, and the food we eat can either support our most vibrant and radiant health, or create a disharmonious state within us (i.e. inflammation, illness, or disease). When we choose to feed our bodies with food that is high vibe and filled with life, we inevitably begin to radiate that same state of aliveness, thus creating an internal environment that promotes self-healing and wholeness!
Holistic nutrition not only takes into consideration what we feed our bodies in terms of food, but also how we nourish our body, mind, and spirit on every level, with things such as movement, mindfulness, self-care, and the content we consume every day. Radiant health goes far beyond what we put on our plate, and when we think about nutrition we can start to look at all aspects of our lives to check in with how we could best nourish ourselves and our energy.
The more we can live in harmony with our body and it's holistic systems - treating it as our sacred temple and life-force vessel - the more it will start to work for us instead of against us! Understanding the power of consuming high quality and nutrient-dense foods alongside a nourishing life expression helps us to start feeling more alive, energetically light, and creates more vibrance in our day-to-day lives.
Holistic nutrition is not a diet- it’s a way of life. But we do pay attention to what we eat. By cutting out processed foods and focusing on whole foods, you can create an overall plan based on your lifestyle, allergies, and the foods you absolutely love. It won’t be long before you notice the physical and mental health benefits, which can include:
Depending on where you are starting from, the physical benefits from embracing holistic nutrition may be most noticeable. Any time you replace processed foods, and decrease salt and sugar intake, you’re helping your body. You may experience weight loss without restricting calories, find your joints don’t ache, and get a thumb’s up the next time you visit the doctor.
Holistic nutrition can also improve your body’s ability to fight off illness. The strength of your immune system and its ability to repair itself is directly linked to nutrition. By improving what you eat, you can help prevent new ailments, and assist your body’s healing process.
You may also notice you have an easier time falling asleep and staying asleep. As a result of better sleep and better physical health, you may find you have increased energy. It’s easy to add a fitness, yoga, or meditation class to your routine when you have more energy. Feeling better physically can improve your mood and help with mental health symptoms as well. When you feel better, you focus better.
The goal with holistic nutrition is to improve your overall feeling of well-being. You’ve heard that old saying “you are what you eat”? It’s true. Eat a lot of junk food and drink a lot of alcohol, and your body will react with weight gain, inflammation, and decreased energy. Treat your body like a temple and nourish it with nutrient-rich whole foods, and it will thank you.
