Practices to calm your body, mind and soul. 

 

We live in a world that is on high drive, all the time. We are always going, always doing, always ‘on.’ 

In fact, for many of us, it is quite challenging to wind down and decompress. 

We are over stimulated: electronically, mentally, emotionally, and physically. 

 

Living these high drive lives keeps our sympathetic nervous system turned on. This is the part of our nervous system that keeps us alert, engaged, and active. When we are stressed and in constant go-mode, our sympathetic nervous system is activated, which is not bad all the time, except that for many of us, it is activated all the time. 

 

Having practices to calm our hyper-stimulated system is so important. Sacred slow down rituals help us tap into the power of our parasympathetic nervous system. When we are calm and relaxed, our system has an opportunity to chill out. The parasympathetic nervous system allows us to rest, digest, and regenerate, which is vital to our health and well-being. 

 

Our favourite relaxation rituals are: 

1. Meditate

Meditation is divine. It creates space for you to sit in stillness, quiet, and with your breath. It allows you to float in the space of your mind with ease and grace. It cultivates awareness, presence, clarity, and creativity… And we believe it is crucial for winding down. 

 

2. Journal

Writing can be the most therapeutic thing. Sometimes all we need is to get our thoughts out of our mind and onto paper. In a way, it releases them. Journaling for intention, clarity, and understanding is a potent practice that is both cathartic and integrative. 

 

3. Rest + Restore Class

Slow moving and breathing is so nourishing for the body and the soul. Connecting intimately to yourself through gentle movements and quiet spaciousness is deeply sacred. This is a space to cultivate your most gentle connections to your body and mind. 

 

4. Essential Oil Savasana 

Keep it simple. Grab your favourite essential oil, put a few drops in the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Lie on your back, grounded, comfortable and inhale the sweet smells from your hands. Stay for as long as you need. We recommend lavender, bergamot, clary sage, and ylang ylang. 5. Silent Nature Stroll

There is nothing like being in the forest or at the beach or any piece of nature you can find. Walking in silence, listening to the natural sounds of nature, mindful of your steps… This is one of the most grounding and beautiful practices. 

 

6. Hot Bath

Evening baths are sacred. Epsom salts, essential oils, candles… Make it special every time. Turn the world off and land in the warmth of the water… Breathe and dream. 

 

Carving out sacred space for relaxation rituals and making these practices a priority will help you to feel more calm, centered, and grounded, as well as keep you feeling and functioning your best. Your body needs rest. Try integrating these relaxation rituals into your life… and feel the difference: mind, body, and soul.
